NdFeB Pot Magnets are best for small sized magnetic products with maximum pull strength (ideally when in direct contact with ferromagnetic e.g. mild steel surfaces).
We currently offer four types of Pot Magnet that contain NdFeB magnets:-
We offer some of the designs as rubber coated magnets to provide extra friction to reduce (this is at the expense of the maximum possible pull force because the rubber introduces an ‘effective’ air gap into the magnetic circuit). The rubber coated pot magnets allow less slippage on vertical surfaces. Standard Pot Magnets typically require only 20% of the maximum possible pull force to start a slip (shear) – the actual value is affected by the levels of friction present.
The actual pull force achieved is dependent on the surface that is being clamped onto (material type, thickness, flatness, friction levels, etc), its quality (e.g. rust free), its size (thickness plus total surface area), etc. Clamping onto thin sheet (2mm or less for example) generally results in a reduced clamping force as the thin ferromagnetic sheet magnetically saturates. Clamping through an ‘effective air gap’ also significantly reduces the pull force (e.g. clamping onto a curved surface). As the ambient temperature increases, the clamping force reduces (it does return provided the magnet is not taken too hot e.g. +80 degrees C for standard NdFeB, otherwise a permanent weakening due to demagnetisation occurs).
There are many applications for NdFeB Pot Magnets, mainly in applications where a strong clamping force is required. Applications include Point of Sale, window dressing, door / cupboard and gate clamps, false ceiling clamps, signs and banners, torque limited seals, jigs and fixtures, lighting holders, marketing and exhibition displays, retrieval magnets, industrial fixings, etc.
Although we show a range of stocked sizes for each Pot Magnet type, we do offer a wider range of Pot Magnets (including Pot Magnets using different magnet materials e.g. Ferrite, Alnico and SmCo plus other styles of Pot Magnet e.g. limpet, internal threaded stud and threaded through hole). If this is of interest, please ask us for our Pot Magnet brochure. We also produce made to measure (custom) Pot Magnets to meet specific requirements. Please get in touch if you would like a price for custom-made Pot Magnets.
The NdFeB Pot Magnet with External Threaded Stud / Boss Mounting can be screwed into M5, M6 and M8 tapped holes. Or the Pot Magnet with External Threaded Stud / Boss Mounting can be put into a standard hole and a nut can be used to clamp it in place. The NdFeB Pot Magnet with External Threaded Stud / Boss Mounting offers maximum clamping forces from 6kg up to 43kg. Bespoke units can be made upon request.

The NdFeB Pot Magnet with Through Hole Mounting contains a NdFeB ring magnet within a plated steel casing. A cap screw can be used to securely clamp the pot magnet in place (clamping onto steelwork rather than the magnet) – the holes are 3, 5 and 6mm in diameter.
Other sizes of Pot Magnet can be produced upon request.
